Viking River Cruise, Nuremberg Germany
Bavaria's second largest city attracts visitors with its varied history, medieval Old Town, and grand castle. Surrounded by massive walls, the city boasts an abundance of 15th and 16th century art and architecture. Looking at these magnificent edifices, it is hard to believe that Nuremberg was almost completely flattened in 1945 by Allied bombers (including the castle and old churches in Old Town). A painstaking reconstruction (which continues to this day) returned this beautiful city to some of its former glory.
Part of our Viking Cruise tour of the city included a sobering stop at the Nazi Party Rally Grounds & Documentation Center, located on the site where Nazi Party rallies were held.
