La Purisima Mission State Historic Park
La Purisima Mission is truly “A Place in Time.” It is one of three Missions (of the 21 Franciscan Missions in California) preserved within the state park system. It is considered the most fully restored Spanish-style mission, in its most original setting. Tended gardens, corralled livestock and restored mission buildings evoke days when the California missions were self -sustaining. During special events, the costumed docents at La Purisima re-enact the daily lives of mission residents, illustrating the daily chores of tortilla and soap making, blacksmithing, bread baking, spinning and weaving. The docents assume the character of the 1820 residents, relating their daily routines and how they view life at the mission. Allow at least two hours to explore the buildings and grounds. The Mission grounds lead to miles of hiking trails. Tour the Visitors Center for a complete history of La Purisima, including its dramatic restoration.
