Amtrak Coast Starlight, Santa Barbara to Oakland
We overnighted at the lovely and romantic Mediterranean-style villa at the Brisas del Mar, Inn at the Beach. Quiet and charming, it was the perfect location for us, as it was just a short walk away to Santa Barbara’s iconic palm-lined beach and boardwalk. Sbhotels.com
It was also just a few blocks away from the historic Santa Barbara train station, where we boarded the Coast Starlight on the next leg of our trip: Santa Barbara to Oakland (again, rolling past some unforgettable scenery, which we enjoyed in the comfort of a private roomette). We especially enjoyed access to the Observation Car with incredible views over the ocean and endless expanses of California wildflowers, still blooming in profusion well into May, thanks to California’s unprecedented winter rains.
