We pulled into the state-of-the-art Oakland Amtrak station around 9 pm and were again delighted that we only had to walk a few blocks to reach the urban hip Waterfront Hotel, located on the picturesque Jack London Square. We had learned that Oakland was recently named one of the 28 “best trips” in the world for 2019, according to National Geographic Traveler.
